For business owners, retaining and hiring desk-less workers continues to prove a challenge.
A record number of 37% of owners surveyed by NFIB reported raising overall compensation for workers in September. The same NFIB study reported that 67% of business owners were hiring or trying to hire. Furthermore, of the owners who were trying to hire, 87% of them said that there were few or no qualified workers for open positions.
Openings were most commonly reported in construction, manufacturing, transportation, wholesale trades, and retail. NFIB President and CEO Juanita D. Dungan had this to say, “There is extraordinary competition for workers in this historically tight labor market.”
So, if you're a looking to hire construction, manufacturing, transportation, wholesale or retail workers...what can you do to attract and engage qualified candidates?
You can start by improving your candidate communication! By improving your candidate communication with text messaging, you can get a lot more out of the existing candidate database you already have in your ATS and/or CRM.
Just consider Missouri based supermarket chain Dierbergs Markets for example.
Dierbergs recently introduced text messaging to their hiring process and began using TextRecruit. Since then, they've communicated with over 5,000 candidates through text messages. They're currently averaging around an 80% response rate with an average response time of 2 hours. Those are great numbers that indicate effective candidate communication.
So why are text messages so effective for improving candidate communication? Well, It's due in part to the labor shortage and also due to changing consumer behaviors. As consumer attention continues to favor real time communication, the effectiveness of sending out job ads via email continues to diminish.
This becomes painfully clear when communicating with desk-less workers. It seems, the days of sending out a job ad via an email campaign and expecting to fill roles rapidly are past. In fact, according to the folks over at RecruitingDaily “By the time you have candidates reading a promotional email and a job description, you’ve more than likely lost half of the qualified leads.” But you probably knew that already.
I'd like to invite you to join Erica Campbell, Talent Acquisition Manager at Dierbergs Markets, for a live webinar hosted by RecruitingDaily as she discusses how she increased her response rates, what tools she used and why, and shares real-life examples of recruiting text messages that work. Erica will also introduce a new concept, “The Recruiting Rabbit Hole” and show you how to best avoid metaphorically breaking an ankle by stepping in one.
